They’re In!

We moved Snowball, Pearl and Nugget into the new coop today!

They look a bit bewildered.

Yesterday I laid the linoleum floor – stuck it down good with liquid nails so we shall see how it holds up.

We cut another window and covered all the open spaces with hardware cloth.

I laid patio tiles around the perimeter inside and out so NOTHING can dig in.

We even started nailing on the wood siding.

Later will come the nest boxes, landscaping and DECORATING!  I have so many fun ideas and can’t wait to get started.

I also want to expand the pen area.

First things first.

The young girls will spend a couple days ‘locked’ in the hen house to get used to it.

After a couple days I will open the door and they can explore their run.  Hopefully at dusk they will go up the ramp to sleep in their hen house without any prodding.

Next weekend we will expand the outside pen but keep it divided into two areas so the new girls and old can ‘introduce’ themselves through the fence.  After a couple days of that we will let them mingle for good.

The older 4 girls will still sleep in ‘The Cluck Inn’ since they are used to it.

The new-and-as-yet-unnamed coop has room for more future chickens in case chicken math kicks in!
